The key to excellent performance is finding the match between your talents and your role.
Unfortunately more often than not many of us miss this mark. We hardly pick our majors based on our passions or talents. Speaking strictly as a Nigerian, I presume this is true more so with us because we are raised to choose our majors/careers based on monetary gains or moreover based primarily on favorable status acquisition.
My goal of starting this blog is to, with comments received, come up with a resolution to this problem. I believe it is critical that we solve this problem. If not for this problem we won't have majority of people going to work everyday and claiming that they can't stand their job. I believe that if people are passionate about what they do, they would enjoy getting up for work daily. For example in Nigeria there are a lot of people with Medical degrees who hate what they do and if asked why they went through such rigor their likely answer would be because it made my parents proud or some other flimsy answer, instead of because they love what they do.
I would appreciate as many comments as possible, and please feel free to share personal experiences with regards to this issue, you can stay anonymous. Thanks in advance. I would endeavor to put up posts periodically, that would stimulate your comments on this subject. Lets collectively solve this problem together so that our children won't have to deal with it. Resolution of this matter would inevitably help in creating a more productive/brighter future.

My name is Osayi, this is my first blog, so I'll use it to introduce myself to the blogosphere. My goal is to utilize blogging to answer a lot of life's questions or gain better perspective on how people think and reason through life's matters. Back to my introduction. Well I am originally from Nigeria, I moved to Boston in 1997. My reason for coming to Boston was to attend college. Well I started that journey in '99 and completed my undergraduate degree in 2003 at Northeastern University, following that I took a year off, like most people do, and went back for a Masters Degree in Engineering Management. I will be done next month, thank God. Unfortunately now I am beginning to realize that the major I selected is not something I'm really passionate about. At this point I am trying to rewind and figure out how I got on the wrong track and did not realize it sooner, this has lead me to ask; How do people decide what they want to pursue in college? So far I have found that a lot of things influence this decision, Quest for status, money, acceptance, happiness also things like culture, upbringing, etc, affect this decision. I believe a love/passion for what you pick is the idea influence as to what you chose, but most times, the other things are just so strong that they cloud your vision. Does any one out there agree with me on this or am I the only one seeing this as an issue. I think this world will be a better place if everyone is doing what they are passionate about then we won't have co-workers complaining to us everyday about how much they hate their job....
